Amida Newcastle

Pureland Buddhism in the North East

Newsletter: March 2007

News

Recently we changed the format of our meetings at Amida Sanctuary and Newcastle University, giving Guided 'Meditation For Relaxation', which caters for people who are interested in meditation in the Buddhist style primarily as a means for feeling calmer, who are not so interested in Pureland practice and studying Buddhism. For those are interested in Pureland Buddhist practice and understanding, there are the Pureland services on Tuesday evenings at Amida Sanctuary and, at Newcastle University, Buddhist classes at Castle Leazes. We are delighted that from the beginning of the Summer Term the Tuesday Meditation For Relaxation sessions at Newcastle University are going to be held in the Kings Road Centre - a warmer and quieter environment.

On Tuesday March 27th, at 7:30 pm, we will be holding a ceremony at Amida Sanctuary for Colin, who will be confirming his membership of the Amida-Shu - Amida School - and renewing the Five Mahayana Precepts. You are all invited.

How does your garden grow?

Here are Sally and Colin at Amida Sanctuary on Monday evening with a present of leeks from the garden.

New weblog for Irene Brazier Memorial Garden

Colin has spent the first half of the morning here. We've been working together - always so much more fun - to create a weblog for the Irene Brazier Memorial Garden. This will have multiple authors so 'the team' can post their own news.

On the allotment today

News from Colin:
Today the Pure Land Gardeners have been working on the
allotment. As we are gardening organically we are using the
''raised bed system'' as a way to construct the area. Today
we have began to plan and mark the area where each bed
will be situated. There will be six beds in all, five of the
beds will each represent one of the five Buddhas and one
of the beds will represent Quan Yin.

Pure Land Gardeners meeting again

Colin has arranged a Pure Land Gardeners meeting for Thursday 24th here at Amida Sanctuary

The garden is shaping up

The Irene Brazier Memorial Garden, which has been in Colin's mind for some time, is now starting to take shape. He has been over here this morning to talk about some of his plans - much enthusiasm. He's gathering a team around him - they have met a few times now and are going to be meeting up again on Saturday (19th March) at 10:30am at the garden, which is on Stephen St, off Byker Bank (behind MOT Test Centre, across road from Morrison's, just near Cumberland Arms (there is a link to the map at the end of the address line at the top of this site)

Do contact Colin for more details. This project is very dear to him - he spent many hours giving assistance to her in the garden at Quannon House.
