St. Louis, MO (USA) -- Jim McLaughlin has lived his life as a practical man. He's a business consultant who served 10 years in the U.S. Navy, has never used illegal drugs, has been married 32    years and has two children, both professionals.

Buddhist meditation wasn't on his radar when he started trying to tame some of the chaos in his mind. But in his late 50s, he was diagnosed with attention-deficit disorder.

All these sessions are open to all students and staff at Newcastle University. They are suitable for anyone with experience of any Buddhist school or none. All welcome.

They are all cost free. They are led by Rev Sujatin Johnson, Buddhist Chaplain to the University.

Finding the Chaplaincy

Sujatin will be by the door for 10 minutes prior to the lunchtime and afternoon meetings to let you in - otherwise follow the instruction in the link above.

Venue: EPHT (Eustace Percy Hall TV Room) - opposite the shop

All these events are held during term time and are open to students and staff at the University. They will be led by

Buddhism at Newcastle University

Buddhist classes, Introduction to Meditation and guided 'Meditation For Relaxation' sessions at Newcastle University will commence during the week beginning October 2nd. These are open to all students and staff. They may be held at different times or in different venues from last academic year. Details are being finalised and will be posted on this site as soon as possible.

Rev Sujatin will be in the tea tent near the Student Union building from Wednesday 20th - Friday 22nd and from Monday 25th - Thursday 28th September from 10 am - 4 pm (update 22nd September) and at some times during the day on Sunday 24th. She can be contacted on the address at the top of the right-hand column. You can also request to be added to the Amida Newcastle yahoogroup, using the e-mail address. This will keep you up to date with events at the University and at the centre in Gosforth, some 2 miles from the University.

Minneapolis (USA) -- Robert Zeglovitch, an employment attorney at Leonard, Street and Deinard in Minneapolis, has been practicing Zen meditation for more than 10 years. When he offered to teach a Buddhism-based but secular form of meditation called "mindfulness" within the law firm in 2004, the demand was so great that he expanded from one to three classes.

The students are back...

Sujatin has been involved in International Welcome for all the overseas students who have been arriving at newcastle University. Now Freshers' is in full swing, with all the UK students starting. Also friends from last year arriving back from their travels.

Meditation For Relaxation - Sept 21st

Meditation for Relaxation will be held in the Chaplaincy this week.
Following this it will be in the usual venue, the Kirton Room, for the rest of the term.
Time: 12-30 - 1:30pm

There will be an additional  Meditation For Relaxation session for Mature Students on Wednesday 21st

Venue - LG38, The Bedson Teaching Centre the building, at the far end of the Armstrong Building - going south  - just off Queen Victoria Road
