OTHER CENTRED THERAPY
Buddhist Psychology in Action
A talk by Caroline Brazier of the Amida Trust
(no booking required – entry by donation)
What insight does Buddhism offer to the therapist? As it gains popularity in the West, the Buddhist paradigm has become an important influence on the therapy world and has brought a number of specific contributions both in methodology, such as the popular mindfulness based approaches, and in theory of mental conditioning and self formation. In this talk Caroline Brazier will describe an approach to therapy, grounded in Buddhist psychology, which has been developed through the training programme run by Amida Trust. Other-Centred Approach is a method which relies on the Buddhist principles of transcending the illusion of permanent identity and living more fully in engagement with others and with life. It is practical and innovative, challenging many popular assumptions about the therapeutic, whilst offering new insight which will benefit the practice of all those in the helping field.
Caroline Brazier is leader of the Amida training programme in Buddhist psychotherapy and author of five books including Buddhist Psychology (Robinson 2003) and Other-Centred Therapy (O-Books 2009). She lives in the Amida community in the UK and travels and teaches internationally. Details of the Amida programmes can be found at www.buddhistpsychology.info
