Lets spend all out high-tech money on this sort of thing in future, shall we, instead of-cluster bombs. Much nicer.

I recall the outcry when Cassini was launched because it is powered by a nuclear reactor. Since it used the Sun to slingshot to Saturn, it had to pass by Earth, and the nay-sayers carried on about the destruction that would occur should it crash and why are we spending money on such things anyway? Yet those same folks are awefully quiet now, and I haven't heard any apologies.

I can see your point.

I'd much rather that the money was used to deal with poverty, hunger and inequality. I'd certainly prefer that all the money that is being used for weaponry in Iraq was used in that way. There's a site somewhere that has the dollar cost counting up by the second. It *so* grieves me that all that money, energy, intelligence and expertise are bing used that could translate into something so much more beneficial.
