Our car was broken into on the way down the A1 on 23rd December, when we had stopped for a meal. Two large bags were taken, including a number of Christmas presents - a Bridge computer from me to Peter, a digital camera which was joint 8th birthday and Christmas present to Freja, my eldest granddaughter, all the presents for The Buddhist House. Also lots of old poetry books, Buddhist books and personal papers. And my TENS machine. Obviously only a minor inconvenience compared to the news we were all to get on 26th.
Subsequently I have had a call from the police - a policeman found some of the above on Christmas Day, abandoned in a village a few miles away from where they were taken. Not the valuable stuff, but some of the personal, irreplaceable, things and lots of books. They are now safely stowed in Peterborough - rather a long way from Newcastle, so another trip down will be made in the next couple of weeks.
Prior to our setting out I had asked Peter not to put his present to me in the bags, in case I guessed what it was. So, lucky me, he gave me an iPod on Christmas afternoon.
Since I've been back, among the things I have been doing is uploading lots of music. And am putting more on now. The first thing I listened to was 'The Best of Nick Drake'.
Thank you Simon for the pretty pink cover - and for the music.
