When I became a Buddhist as a wee lad (of 20) in 1972, I remember my (then Catholic) spiritual directors having had a very squeamish and at best ambivalent view of meditation in general. I don't know how it is today in mainstream Catholic circles, much less in Rome, but that is where I would start a conversation with the new pope - on the role of meditation in, let's say, the cultivation of love and compassion.

Oh well, at least I wont be lonely and the conversation will be interesting...
