In his book The Universe in a Single Atom the Dalai Lama explores the parallels between Buddhist philosophy and modern science. In the chapter entitled 'The Big Bang and the Buddhist Beginningless Universe' he writes: 'Buddhism and science share a fundamental reluctance to postulate a transcendent being as the origin of all things'.
